New Nebraska Corn Quality Report is released
The Nebraska Corn Board has released the results of its 2007 Corn Quality Study. It shows that Nebraska corn producers harvested another quality crop in 2007—with 91 percent of the corn grading #1 and 6.9 percent grading #2. Average test weight was 58.7 pounds/bushel. USDA lowers Nebraska corn forecast by 4%
The projection of Nebraska’s 2007 corn crop decreased 4%, from 1.512 billion bushels to 1.458 billion bushels, in the November USDA Crop Production report. Nebraska’s average corn yield is forecast at 162 bushels per acre, a 6 bushel drop from last month. The Nebraska Corn Board says the primary reason for the drop is that irrigated yields are not as high as previously expected . DDGS Conference Attracts Global Audience
Kelly Brunkhorst, ag promotion coordinator with the Nebraska Corn Board, attended the first-ever International Distillers Grains Conference in Illinois. Crop Producers Line Up Behind Animal Agriculture
Randy Klein, director of market development for the Nebraska Corn Board, attended a recent meeting of the Animal Agriculture Coalition in St. Louis. Corn acreage numbers exceed March estimate
Today’s USDA Acreage Report puts corn acreage in Nebraska at 9.1 million acres. If Mother Nature continues to cooperate, that could translate into a 1.3 billion bushel Nebraska corn crop this fall. Nationally, corn acreage is pegged at 92.9 million acres, up 19 percent from 2006 and three percent higher than the USDA’s March projection. The USDA will release results of the Distillers Grain Survey of livestock producers this Friday, June 29. As America deals with high gasoline prices brought on by record crude oil prices and strained refining capacity and gasoline supply, some are suggesting that removing the secondary tariff on imported ethanol would reduce prices and increase supplies of ethanol. The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) says that is not the case, and that removing the tariff would have a negative impact on American taxpayers.
