Clark Joins NCB Staff  Kimberly Clark has joined the staff of the Nebraska Corn Board (NCB) as ag program manager.  Clark’s responsibilities on staff will be to coordinate the board’s ethanol programs to increase instate demand, improve and expand infrastructure of blender pumps and ethanol movement outside of the state.  Clark, a Leigh, Neb. native is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a master’s of science degree in Animal Science and Agriculture Leadership and bachelor’s of science in Animal Science. 

EPA Approves E15 for 2001-2006 Model Year Vehicles  The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently approved the use of E15 (a blend of 15 percent ethanol) in vehicles manufactured between 2001 – 2006.  This approval was the second for EPA as they previously approved E15 for model year vehicles 2007 and newer, last fall.  With this most recent announcement, approximately 60 percent of U.S. vehicles and 70 percent of total miles driven will be covered by model year 2001 and newer.  E15 is approved for use in model year 2001 and new cars and light duty trucks and all flex fuel vehicles.

 American Ethanol to Debut at Daytona  American Ethanol will make its debut in the NASCAR racing circuit in Daytona, Florida during races the week leading up to and including the weekend of February 20.  American Ethanol is a partnership of the National Corn Growers Association and their state affiliates, Growth Energy and NASCAR; to communicate that America is capable of producing and using its own renewable fuel.   All future NASCAR races will be fueled using a 15 percent ethanol blend (E15).  Look for the American Ethanol Green Flag during telecasts of the Daytona 500 race on February 20.  

 NASS Releases Annual Production Estimates  The National Agriculture Statistics Service (NASS) released their annual production estimates for this past year’s crops.  For Nebraska, NASS lowered the corn production figure to 1.47 billion bushels on harvested acres of 8.85 million acres.  Yield was estimated at 166 bushels per acre.  United States estimates include corn production of 12.4 billion bushels on harvested acres of 81.4 million acres.  Yield was estimated at 152.8 bushels per acre.

Within President Obama’s State of the Union Address, a couple of issues important to corn producers were mentioned including passage of free trade agreements and renewable energy.
