Corn exports out of Nebraska can be divided into two categories:
foreign and domestic. “Foreign exports” is
self-explanatory. “Domestic exports” includes
any corn that is shipped from Nebraska to another state
in the U.S.
In the “domestic” sales category, California
is currently the largest market for Nebraska corn. About 145 million bushels of Nebraska corn were sold to
California in the most recent marketing year. Most of
that goes for poultry, dairy and cattle feeding.
Foreign sales account for about 6 percent of corn usage
in Nebraska. Some of that is shipped to Mexico
by rail and is used for livestock feeding.
The U.S. Grains
Council (USGC) develops export markets for U.S. corn,
grain sorghum, barley and related products. The Nebraska
Corn Board is a long-time supporter of USGC. |
